Just as you can prepare for emergencies yourself by putting together an emergency kit, it is also a good idea to put together an emergency kit for your pets.

Keep essential items in containers or bags that are easy to carry. Protect important documents by either laminating them or placing them in waterproof plastic bags.

 Important documents

  • Keep copies of all your pets medications, medical conditions and medical records (including vaccination history)
  • Keep a recent photo of your pet in this pack in case you get separated.
  • If possible ensure your pet can be identified - if appropriate get your pet microchipped and wearing ID. 
  • List details of any behavioural issues your dog my have, likes and dislikes etc.
  • List the name and contact details of your vet.

Handling and restraint

  • Leads and harnesses
  • Pet carriers (labelled with your contact information)

Food and supplies

  • Pet food (enough for several days)
  • Food and water bowls
  • Manual tin opener (if using tinned food)
  • Litter tray and litter (for cats)

 Comfort Items

  • Small toys
  • Pet bed or blanket
